A SOUTH Lakeland brewery is hoping to bring an 'exciting' addition to the nightlife of a South Lakeland town when it opens its first bar this Spring.

Flookburgh-based Fell Brewery, has been producing its range of beers for four years, but is embarking on its next step of expansion by opening a new bar in Kendal.

Fell Bar is due to open on Lowther Street within a matter of weeks, at the former Bliss lingerie shop premises.

"It will provide people with a really exciting experience in a nice environment," said Fell Brewery's co-owner Andrew Carter.

"When we took it on it was in need of a lot of renovation so we've been restoring it over the last 12 months while keeping some of its great features. It will be a nice space to be in."

Mr Carter, who owns the brewery with Tim Bloomer, said he was optimistic Fell Bar would bring a welcome boost to the town.

"The brewery is based in Flookburgh and Kendal is the nearest major town to us and it's somewhere we thought we could open a bar with a bit of a difference to enhance the nightlife in Kendal," he said.

"It's something we always intended to do when we started up as it's the next logical step to showcase the beers we make. We're going to have our own beers – cask and keg – and a lot of guest beers as well because we think it's important to have good variety and choice.

"We will also have a short but strong selection of wines and gins and other drinks as well. It will be drinks led but we hope to add food as well. When we do it will be food to complement drinks such as light nibbles and we'll develop it from there."
