ANDREA Leadsom, Secretary of State for the Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (DEFRA), visited dozens of South Lakeland farmers on Monday to discuss the future of the industry.
Mrs Leadsom met with approximately 40 farmers at Low Foulshaw Farm, Levens, during a one-and-a-half hour visit.
Jim Bland, president of the Westmorland and Lonsdale Conservative group, said it had been worthwhile for those in attendance.
"It seemed to go very well and everybody was happy, they could ask whatever questions they wanted even if the didn't always get the answer they wanted," said Mr Bland, of Ninezergh Farm, Levens.
"She spoke about the state of agriculture and basically what will happen with the changes after Brexit.
"What she did say is that we're going to get the same revenue support for the next five years. That was very much welcomed by all the farmers because we had anticipated it would be cut back once we lose support from Europe."
