MORE than 6,000 pints were pulled at The Factory Tap's inaugural beer festival over the bank holiday weekend.

There were some 50 beers on offer at the Kendal venue, including international, national and and locally sourced tipples.

And entertainment came from The Seals, Burneside Brass Band and Ernestinum Big Band from Kendal's twin town of Rinteln in Germany.

Ronnie Mullen, owner of The Factory Tap, said that the event had 'exceeded expectations'.

"I would say we've had, over three days, probably 500 attendees a day," he said. "The rain came on Saturday and put a bit of a dampener in the afternoon but when it stopped raining, the whole of Kendal decided they would come down and see what was going on - we were absolutely mobbed."

Marilyn Molloy, Westmorland CAMRA (Campaign for Real Ale) vice chair, said that she was 'amazed' at how busy the festival was and that the atmosphere was 'relaxed' and 'friendly'.

"What struck me was the wide age range of festival goers, matching the equally wide range of beer styles and breweries on offer!," she said. "As well as the usual well-stocked bar, there was an outside marquee to the rear with another eight hand pulls."

Mr Mullen added that there was another festival in the offing, set to take place October 25-28.
