A MEMORIAL service for much-loved music teacher, David Chapman, filled St Mary's Parish Church in Kirkby Lonsdale with 200 people.

David Chapman was the head of music at Casterton Girls School for more than two decades and later held the same position at Giggleswick School.

A combination of more than than 30 Casterton staff members and former pupils made up the choir that performed in the service, singing 'The Lord bless you and keep you' by John Rutter and the Amen.

His wife, Julie Chapman, said that it was a 'beautiful' service filled with people that David had known through the course of his life.

"Lots of people have contacted me and said what a beautiful service it was," she said. "It was just lovely because of all the people who could give up their time to remember David.

"The atmosphere was lovely and everybody was happy to share memories. He would have loved seeing all the girls and everybody.

"He would have felt very proud of the girls and they sounded beautiful."

Robert Blackmore, whose father knew David, will be undertaking a half marathon in David's name in aid of Marie Curie nurses. More information at: https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/RobertRunsforDavidChapman
