SOUTH Lakes runners dominated the top order of the gruelling Long Duddon race on Saturday.

The 29km race through the Duddon Valley, taking in the likes of Harter, Hard Knott, Swirl How and White Pike sees entrants tackle more than 6,000 feet of climbing.

The women's race was won by Helm Hill's Sharon Taylor, in a time of 3:30:19. She beat Dark Peak pair Judith Jepson (3:45:07) and Jenny Caddick (4:03:34) while Ambleside's Michelle Foxwell clocked 4:05:34 to finish fourth.

The men's race was won by Staveley's Rob Jebb in 2:53:19, as he finished ahead of Ambleside duo John Helme (2:57:00) and Ben Abdelnoor (2:58:42). Helm Hill's Tom Addison was fourth with a time of 3:00:22, with Ambleside's Jo Mann fifth in 3:05:38 and Adam Perry of Ambleside sixth in 3:09:19.

Also taking place on Saturday the Pen-y-Gent race which drew 140 runners to the Dales for the 9.5km run from Horton in Ribblesdale.

Thomas Corrigan of Barlick Fell Runners was the race winner in 48:44. Wharfedale Harriers Ted Mason was second in 49:14, while Helm Hill's Michael Ainsworth finished fourth in 49:44, and Kendal AAC's Craig Roberts came home in tenth place with a time of 54:06.

The ladies' race was won by Rachel Pilling of Pudsey and Bramley AC, with Hyde Park Harriers' Rebecca Gray second and Sally Houghton of Ripon Runners in third.

Settle runner Paul Webb was the first to finish at Thursday's 7.5km Ingleton Scenery Fell Race, in a time of 30:48.

He was closely followed by Nick Treitl of Barlick, who clocked 30:54, while Settle's Matthew Fretwell was third. Helm Hill runner Jos Addison finished 10th with a time of 34:14.

Amie McAvoy of Garstang was first lady in 39:01 ahead of Louise Goddard (42:22) and Wharfedale's Lynn Whittaker (42:32).
