HAWKSHEAD Esthwaite Primary School's annual Rose Queen Gala is set to take place on Saturday, June 10. The gala, which school secretary Jane Glaister says has taken place for decades, will start off at the school at 2pm. A parade into the town and maypole dancing will follow. After this everyone will return to the school, where there will be cream teas, activities and stalls. Year 5 pupil Amber Glaister takes over from Hannah Nicholson as this year's Rose Queen and will receive a gift of a necklace, have her hair done and wear a special dress. Ms Glaister said that it was a 'very traditional' event and Amber was 'chuffed to bits' to have been chosen as this year's Rose Queen. "We try and encourage tourists to come back to school," Ms Glaister said, explaining the event was open to everyone. "It's mainly families and local people but we encourage anyone who wants to come along."
