THE Rotary Club of Lunesdale enjoyed a walk for charity on Sunday (June 4), raising more than £1,000.

Three walks took place as part of the 'Lune Walk 4 UR Charity' event, each starting in Kirkby Lonsdale.

"After a couple of very heavy showers in the early morning the skies cleared and the sun shone on all three walks - 17 miles, 9 miles and 5 miles," Lilian Barton the club's public relations officer said. "The weather proved to be a perfect day for walking. It was really nice to welcome some children on the easy walk who enjoyed doing a quiz as they walked the route."

About 100 people, including children, took part in the walk and somewhere in the region of £1,200 has been raised so far.

Charities that will benefit include the North West Air Ambulance, Sight Advice South Lakes and Sunbeams Bentham.

"All three walks took in some beautiful scenery with lovely views where probably most people had not been before," Lilian said.

"The really lovely part of the walk was that everybody enjoyed it and the weather was so favourable."
