A SOUTH Lakeland woman is taking on a challenge trek in South American to raise funds for St John's Hospice.

In March 2018, Sara Brown will join 50 others on the 10-day trek to Macchu Pichu in Peru with the collective goal of raising £100,000 for the Lancashire based hospice.

Sara, who works at the hospice as a community fundraiser and lives in New Hutton, has organised Band in the Barn, an evening of food and entertainment in Gatebeck featuring popular local band The Seals on June 17.

"Working at the hospice I meet grateful patients and families all the time and it has certainly been a fresh challenge to put on my own event," she said. "My mum died in a hospice and it feels right to give something back for the fantastic work that hospices do.

"My target is £4,000 and I have already raised more than £1,000 which I am delighted with so far. The barn is in a lovely location and if the weather is good it should be a fantastic night!"

Tickets for the evening are £12.50 and can be purchased at the hospice furniture shop in Kendal or at www.trybooking.co.uk/CBK
