THE ongoing £16million redevelopment of Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa on the shores of Windermere has reached another key milestone with the re-opening of its health club and gym.

The fully refurbished facility, a key feature of what will become the first world class resort in the area later this year, includes a reconfigured, spacious fitness studio with 40 cardio and resistance stations, express spa treatment rooms and modernised male, female and family changing areas.

A new infra-red sauna will give hotel guests and members the chance to detoxify and purify their skin, while the steam room has been upgraded to cater for up to ten users at a time.

The health club’s new ‘Snug’ includes manicure and pedicure lounges, physiotherapy and spa and massage treatment rooms.

The health club swimming pool hall has also undergone refurbishment and modernisation work to offer a more ambient and well-lit feel, with improved temperature control and a high ceiling to ensure maximum relaxation.

The health club’s new facilities are accessed via high tech wristbands and there is also a new retail area for spa products and souvenirs, all of which have been sourced from local suppliers.

In addition, the existing squash court has been retained.

Michael Kay, group leisure manager from English Lakes Hotels Resorts & Venues says: “As you would expect, the new health club at Low Wood Bay offers both hotel guests and local members and residents the chance to improve their fitness or simply relax with all the latest high tech equipment and leisure services.

“The gym is the perfect environment for guests who want to be a bit more active during their stay. We have over 30 classes per week, including ‘float-fit’ in the pool and outdoor adventure activities like Nordic walking or paddle board sessions out on the lake.

“And as usual we have our qualified instructors on hand to help everyone get the most from all the new equipment and facilities, as well as the spa team providing a wide range of therapeutic treatment experiences.”

Low Wood Bay Resort & Spa’s newly refurbished rooms re-opened after the first phase of construction in April. A restaurant, ‘Blue Smoke on the Bay’, together with brand new outdoor spa facilities and an infinity pool above the lake, are to open in the coming months. The redevelopment work is due to be completed in the autumn.

The final phase will also feature extensive indoor and outdoor thermal experiences for guests, including a variety of cabins, relaxation areas, an infinity pool, hot tubs and sauna, with stunning views across Windermere.
