A NEW £29,000 suite to be used by cancer patients from south Cumbria and Lancashire has opened at Royal Preston Hospital.

The specially equipped room, where people will have pre-op tests to see if they are fit enough for surgery, has been funded by the Rosemere Cancer Foundation with a grant from the Furness Building Society.

Doctors caring for patients who face major surgery have put the suite into immediate use. Its equipment, including an exercise bike, enables lung and heart health to be accurately measured.

Furness Building Society's donation came from its own funds, based on the collective balances held in all Rosemere Cancer Foundation affinity savings accounts. Rosemere is one of a number of good causes customers can choose to support through opening this type of account. In the eight years the building society has offered the account, it has donated £225,320.52 to Rosemere.
