"OYEZ, oyez" - Carnforth is to host a competition to find a new town crier on Saturday, July 8.
The town's much-loved crier, Frank Barton, died in 2014 and it has been Carnforth Town Council's wish to fill the traditional, civic post ever since.

Town clerk Philip Charnley said the council has sought the help of the Ancient and Honourable Guild of Town Criers to stage the event.
"The town council feels it is an important role for the town as the cries and the crier in their uniform provide colour to local events," said Mr Charnley. "In addition Frank Barton travelled to town criers’ events around Britain and further afield and thus helped promote Carnforth."
