A HERDWICK lamb was rescued from the bottom of 40-foot deep disused quarry near Coniston.
A student who was doing fieldwork at Ash Gill Quarry near Tranearth on June 12 had informed the RSPCA about the lamb, and Coniston Mountain Rescue Team was called out.
Two team members got access to the hole from a half-flooded tunnel.

The lamb, which had injured its leg, was placed in a harness and rope and rescued out of the quarry bottom.
It was then carried back to the waiting ambulance and was returned to a local farmer for further treatment.
A spokesperson for the Coniston MRT said: "I can inform you that after some rest and recuperation the injured lamb returned to its duties."
The rescue took two and a half hours from five members of the mountain rescue team.
