THREE people have now been arrested as police continue to probe an alleged attempted murder in Dalton.

A 46 year old man from Dalton sustained life threatening injuries and was taken to Furness General Hospital following the incident on Broughton Road at 8pm last night.

He remains in hospital in a serious but stable condition, and has been arrested today on suspicion of S18 Wounding.

A 42-year-old-man from Dalton was arrested yesterday on suspicion of attempted murder.

He sustained injuries during the incident and is currently at Furness General Hospital.

A third man, a 27-year-old from Dalton, has now also been arrested on suspicion of GBH in connection with incident.

He has been released under investigation.

An axe has been seized by police.

Detectives are currently working to establish the circumstances surrounding the incident.

DI Helen Curme said: “We are working hard to establish what exactly has happened. We are not looking for anyone else in connection with the incident at this time, and I would like to reassure the public that it is not being treated as terrorism related.
