CAMPAIGNERS are tentatively celebrating following news that a controversial concrete plant has been refused.

Alan Wilson of L&W Wilson in Endmoor wanted to build a batching plant on Ore Mill Sidings at Lindal-in-Furness.

However, the application received a number of objections from residents with concerns about the site expanding to an industrial estate and the impact it would have on the A590.

Jack Smith, Lindal and Marton Parish Council clerk, said that campaigners were 'delighted' with the outcome.

"We are clearly delighted," he said. "But it's early days in the sense that there maybe an appeal where we will have the battle to fight all over again.

"But at the moment we are delighted that the outcome is in our favour."

The plans were first submitted to South Lakeland District Council in June last year. The application was to build a batching plant with two 12 metre silos.

Mr Smith said that the plan was not 'in keeping' with rural Furness.
