A MAN who launched a horrific domestic attack on his partner has been spared immediate custody.

Drunken Kaylam Megson, 20, of Buttery Well Lane, Kendal, floored Jane Wilson in a Kendal pub with a punch before resuming his attack at a nearby house. Miss Wilson was grabbed by the throat, punched in the nose and then bitten on the face and thumb.

Only after a friend intervened was Miss Wilson able to flee the property.

Recorder Philip Grundy stepped away from the "easy" option of custody, suspending a 12-month sentence for two years.

An intensive two-year community order was also imposed. This comprises 100 hours' unpaid work and a 30-day rehabilitation requirement, and includes "better relationship" and alcohol treatment programmes.

"This was a wicked, appalling set of events," Recorder Grundy told Megson. "You should be ashamed of yourself."
