A KEEN fell walker from Ulverston has died following a two-car collision. Barrie Pilkington, 73, was involved in an incident on the A5087 between Bardsea to Baycliffe. 

The collision took place on the coast road at around 2.10pm on Tuesday (June 27)

It involved a red Kia Rio, which Mr Pilkington was driving, and a silver Vauxhall Zafira.

Two women travelling in the Zafira were taken to hospital with minor injuries but have since been discharged.

Mr Pilkington's family said in a statement: "Barrie Pilkington sadly passed away yesterday and will be severely missed by his family and friends. He loved photography and fell walking and had even completed all the Wainwrights. He’s now free to explore any fell he wants."

Anyone who witnessed the collision but has yet to come forward is asked to call Cumbria Police on 101 referencing incident number 139 of June 27, 2017.
