CARUS Green golf club has held an opening ceremony to celebrate its expansion with a modern, new extension.

Work on the £500,000, 450-foot extension started in January and includes a new reception area, sports bar and function suite (the Kentdale), which is fully licensed for civil ceremonies, a growing area for the club.

Set out over three floors, the extension comes in response to a tremendous surge in business, particularly over the past year, and just in time for the Trilby Tour, which the club hosted last week.

The pro-active club has enjoyed ongoing success since it opened in 2003. Originally an eighteen-hole golf course with a small café and loo, it has since morphed into an all-out day experience.

2016 was a hugely successful year for the club, with the opening of the Gary Wolstenholme Academy, which features an 18-bay top specification driving range, two bespoke flightscope fitting rooms, an indoor putting lab, chipping and putting green, outdoor all-weather short-game practice area and state of the art GC2 golf simulator. And just last October, the Carus Golf Centre was opened, housing a Golf Superstore offering golf brands such as Galvin Green, Under Armour, FootJoy, Callaway, Ping, Titleist, TaylorMade and Wolsey.

“When the clubhouse first opened, it was adequate for our needs, but business is absolutely booming and last year, we were faced with a real need to accommodate more local and visiting trade,” explains, Carus’ owner, Graham Curtin.

“The new extension works extremely well, with more of a clubhouse ‘feel’ in the sports bar, a fully functioning space for civil ceremonies and events, and a larger, more professional reception area to deal with an increasing surge in accommodation enquiries. With the improvements that have been made, particularly since 2016, Carus is undoubtedly one of the North’s finest golfing establishments.”
