MORE than £1,500 was raised at the Street Choirs Festival, which saw 40 choirs from all over the country gather in Kendal.

Lakeland Voices community choir, led by David Burbidge, hosted the event.

The money raised from collecting will be divided among five charities; Manna House, the Lake District Mountain Rescue Team, Dignity in Dementia, Breaking Barriers and With Singing in Mind.

Lakeland Voices leader David Burbidge said: "We are so pleased that we were able to help these causes. Our visiting singers had a good time singing together in our beautiful town, and local people out shopping were able to enjoy their songs.

"I'm pleased that those who are less fortunate than many of us were also able to benefit from the singing."

The choir will be hosting an end of term concert in the centre of Kendal to raise more money for charity.
