'TIME-travelling' Freemasons celebrated 300 years of brotherhood by recreating an 18th century lodge meeting.

Brethren from Brigantes Lodge, which meets in Kendal, donned wigs, breeches and buckled shoes to stage the re-enactment, to mark the foundation of modern Freemasonry in London in 1717.

The historical depiction was acted out at Kendal's Castle Green Hotel as a curtain-raiser to the Cumberland and Westmorland provincial ball, said member Richard Johnson. Provincial grand master Norman Thompson was among dozens of guests at the sell-out event.

Brigantes Lodge also held a smaller celebration and buffet at the Masonic Hall on Station Road, where lodge master David Barr and his wife Ellen cut a 300th anniversary cake, and 'Happy Birthday' was sung to the Grand Lodge in London.

Members also visited the recently opened Freemasonry exhibition, Into the Light, at Kendal Museum next-door.
