A GROUP of 19 exchange students from Spain, France and Poland have been brushing up on their grasp of the English language with lessons and cultural trips in South Lakeland.

Staying with host families in the area, the students have been attending lessons at Queen Katherine School, Kendal, in the morning during their two-week visit and later go on visits around the area.

On Monday, they visited Cllr Andy Blackman, the mayor of Kendal, at the town hall.

Neil Stanley, who has run the exchange course with his wife Pilar Valeria for seven years, said: “It was a bit of a first as we’ve never taken them to visit the mayor before, but they absolutely loved it.

“They haven’t been too impressed with the weather here but they seem to have enjoyed their time.

“As teenagers it’s interesting for them to learn the differences between their countries and ours and it’s a chance for them to improve their English.”
