A RECORD number of Dallam School pupils have been awarded the full International Baccalaureate Diploma.

Among the successful 38 students was highest-scorer Matt Jones, from Crosthwaite, with a near perfect 44 out of a maximum 45 score.

Matt will go on to study Geography at Oxford. He was closely followed by Adam Dewhurst, from Ackenthwaite, who has a place to study Land Economy at Cambridge and Lizzie Goodfellow, from Storth, who will take up a place to study Veterinary Medicine at Liverpool University.

Lizzie will be joined at Liverpool by Tom Ashworth, one of last year’s students, who will also study Veterinary Science.

Headteacher William Bancroft said: “IB is now rivalling A levels in popularity amongst our domestic students as well as the international ones. It is a fantastic qualification recognised in universities across the world and opening doors to our students.

"Congratulations to all the students for the hard work and success. Dallam has maintained its average points score of 34 comparing favourably with the world average score of 30.

"19 bi-lingual diplomas were awarded which demonstrates Dallam’s commitment to maintaining high quality languages provision in the Sixth Form where we offer French, Spanish, German and Italian.”

Other excellent IB results were achieved by Kadi Maye-Fairer, Fergus Pickett, LeaAnne Cooper and Finn Green.
