Mr Farron was joined on the panel by the film’s producer, Jo Ruxton, as well as representatives from the local Green and Labour parties.

"This captivating film highlights how severe the problem of plastic pollution is," said Mr Farron. "We are not only polluting our ocean at an alarming rate, we are also as a consequence destroying fragile ecosystems and species and even affecting human health.

“It is clear that we need not only to continue to promote recycling, but also to look at practical ways we can reduce our overall plastic consumption, so that we can move towards a plastic-free South Lakeland.

“I’d like to thank all those who helped to organise this interesting and informative event.”
