I am not surprised to see Gary Bushell's letter regarding blocked drains (Letters, July 6, 'What do we pay for?).
It is a common situation, not just in Windermere but across our area.
I have had some success in getting blocked drains cleared but the worst offenders require significant work costing tens of thousands of pounds.
I'm sure regular maintenance would have saved money not just for the county council but for those affected by flooding accentuated by these blocked drains.
