THE sun shone on Casterton School as 32 children and their parents embarked on a mini charity triathlon.

The energetic event was the brainchild of seven-year-old Will Taylor, who has Duchenne muscular dystrophy, and his sister Beth, aged nine.

Will's dad Sam Taylor described the Mini Miles for Muscles Family Triathlon as "a brilliant day" which has so far raised more than £1,300 for Muscular Dystrophy UK.

Will, who attends St Patrick's CE School in Endmoor, completed the shorter 100m swim, 4 km bike and 1km run course, supported by his dad; while Beth did the longer 200m swim, 4km bike and 2km run with mum Sue.

"It was brilliant that so many children came and joined in the triathlon with us," said Beth. "We have all had a really great time and everyone is helping us to raise money that will pay for research into treatments that might help my brother Will."

All the children received a personalised event T-shirt, as well as a medal and certificate for completing the challenge, which was sponsored by Stripy Horse Day Nursery at Crooklands.

The Taylor family are also staging a fund-raising Coast to Coast Triathlon this September - from Whitby to Windermere and Walney Island - with 35 solo riders and teams have signed up.
