A FURNESS music festival is set to triple in size just three years after it first took place.

Dog Fest, which is organised by Dalton pub The Black Dog, is an all day festival that will be held in the field opposite the pub.

Headliners have been confirmed as Carlisle rock ‘n’ roll band Hardwicke Circus.

The festival, which takes place in August 27, has grown year on year since its 2014 foundation.

Originally taking place in the pub car park, the festival attracted over 1,000 people last year. This year’s change of location means more bands and tickets are available.

A young seven-piece, Hardwicke Circus have already made appearances at Glastonbury, Kendal Calling, and Leeds and Reading Festival.

They recently toured with Alabama 3, and have shared the stage with the likes of the Happy Mondays.

With members also hailing from Annan, Ayr, Edinburgh and Helsinki, their music is a mix of indie and rock, with a confident swagger, evoking early ‘70s Rolling Stones.

Leading names from the Furness scene make up much of the line-up, with returning favourites The Sun Kings featuring highly once more.

Their appearance was one of the highlights of DogFest 2016, and they will be looking to impress again with their completely revised set-list of rock covers. With a repertoire ranging from ‘60s hits through to the present day, expect to hear tracks from acts such as The Beatles, Fleetwood Mac and Royal Blood.

Orinoco, who have just headlined at The Black Dog’s summer beer festival, are another established name who put their own stamp on anthems from Oasis, Blur and Stereophonics, while up-and-coming Barrow indie band The Sides will be ones to watch, mixing original material with some indie classics.

Much-loved rock masters Black Mountain Trio, highly-rated Hammond and drum duo Get Carter, psychedelic three-piece Serene, new synth-pop band Indigo Youth, blues trio The Blue Lakes, Americana act the Dustbowl Daredevils and acoustic performers The Hawthorns have all been confirmed to play.

Dog Fest started four years ago in the car park of the pub, the Black Dog Inn, and each year it has grown bigger and busier, with over 1,000 people attending last year. This year we are now holding Dog Fest in the neighbouring field allowing for a higher capacity of festival-goers and lots of different marquees, food stalls, bars and of course, the main stage. Our headline act is the up and coming band, Hardwicke Circus, who are well seasoned on the Festival circuit, having played Kendal Calling, Leeds/Reading and Glastonbury recently and managed by music industry giant Dave Robinson.

Tickets are £10 for a whole day of music starting at 12pm and finishing at 11:30pm on Sunday 27th August. Tickets can be purchased directly from the pub or from https://www.skiddle.com/whats-on/Lancaster/The-Black-Dog/Dog-Fest/12991957/
