Ingleton business goes from leaky cow shed to brand new workshop

Anthony Lund and Richard Law launched Lund and Law Interiors at the beginning of last year.

In the early days the two friends worked out of separate old farm buildings before demand for their bespoke furniture grew so much that they had to relocate to a larger workshop.

Anthony said: “As the business started to grow, we quickly ran out of room in the two small buildings we were working from.

“On one particular job, and on a very rainy day, we had just painted some kitchen units, but we had nowhere to leave them to dry. We had to think on our feet and they ended up in a leaky cow shed with a plastic tarpaulin propped up over them to keep them dry – it was chaotic but it worked!

The pair realised they needed space all under one roof so they renovated an old cow building to turn it into a workshop .

They made the move and settled into the new workspace which includes a spray booth and drying room.

Sustainability has been key for the pair. They use water-based sprays, LED lighting and burn all their waste, sawdust and wood shavings in a wood burner, which heats the workshop.

Anthony, 30, hails from Ingleton and is a former student of Settle High School; Richard, 42, is a father-of-three from Carnforth.

The pair met when they worked together at a local cabinet firm where Richard was employed and Anthony was a sub-contractor.

They were working on a big project in the French Alps when the idea of Lund and Law Interiors was born.

Their wives, Pauline and Joanna, both work alongside them in the business, and they also employ a joinery apprentice, Oscar Jeffrey.

Speaking of the future of Lund and Law Interiors, Anthony said: “The new workshop is fantastic, and we would love to have a showroom at some point in the future where we can display our products on-site.

“Oscar, our apprentice, is really progressing and we would like to take on another apprentice and add to our small team.”
