A MAJOR programme of road resurfacing work will begin in Kendal today.
Cumbria County Council is investing approximately £2 million in the resurfacing programme, which will involve replacing worn-out carriageway with a new surface on a total of 13 roads in Kendal.

The resurfacing programme will begin with works on Castle Green Road, from Parkside Road to Rusland Park. Works are scheduled to start on Monday, July 31 and should take 10 nights to complete. The road will need to be closed at night (6pm-12.30am) during this period to allow the resurfacing to be safely carried out. Signed diversions via local roads will be in place. The works will be carried out at night to minimise disruption to road users.
Resurfacing works on Aynam Road, from Miller Bridge to Nether Bridge, are scheduled to start on Tuesday, August 29, and should take 10 nights to complete. The road will need to be closed at night (6pm-12.30am) to allow the resurfacing to be safely carried out. Signed diversions via local roads will be in place. The works will be carried out at night to minimise disruption to road users.
Councillor Keith Little, CCC cabinet member for highways, said: “The council is investing £2 million in this essential maintenance work in Kendal, which will make a big difference to a number of roads in the town.
"This is part of a huge programme of highways improvement works across the county. We will be working closely with our contractor to ensure these works are done on time but there will inevitably be some disruption and we would advise drivers to plan ahead and allow extra time for journeys.”
The work is weather dependent and as a result timings for the works are subject to change. Advance warning signs will be put in place at each location where resurfacing work is scheduled. Residents and businesses directly affected by resurfacing works will be informed of confirmed start dates.
