A SQUARE branded an 'eyesore' at the southern entrance to Windermere has been lovingly improved by residents.
Ellerthwaite Square had long been the subject of concern for the people of Windermere.
This prompted the town council to team up with the civic society to come up with a plan to give a new lease of life to the neglected piece of land.
Helped by the county council's highway team and an SLDC grant, the square now features a dry stone wall and flower beds.
John Charnley, the local stone waller, built the surrounding wall and Gary Hancox, town steward, came up with such a planting scheme.
Town council clerk Julie Hartley said: "Thanks to all these people, Windermere now has a southern entrance to be proud of and a display of flowers that our lovely town deserves."
