RUNNERS travelled from far and wide to take part in Ulverston's third annual Hoad Hill Festival of Two Feet.

Athletes of all abilities laced up their running shoes to take part in a variety of different events ranging in distance from a mile long race for children to a marathon (26.2 miles) for the more experienced runners.

There was also a King and Queen of the Hoad event which saw competitors complete as many laps as they could around the Sir John Barrow monument in one hour.

Mark Bonner managed 12 laps and was crowned king while Davina Harrison achieved eight laps to win the title of queen.

More than 200 competitors took part in events throughout the two days, some travelling from as far away as Georgia in the USA. Members of a lot of local families also entered multiple events.

Gaynor Prior, who helped to organise the festival said: “The event was really good, the weather helped – it was the first year that the sun has shone!

“The kids' mile race was really fun to watch!”

Nathanial-Jon Ingram won both the men’s 5km and 10km races around Ulverston in 21 minutes and 46 minutes respectively. Elissa Lauckner won the women’s 10km in a time of 50 minutes and Shirley Teasdale won the women’s 5km in 26 minutes.

On Sunday, the half marathon and marathon took place, as well as the mile race for children.

The men’s marathon winner was Jon Crockett with a time of three hours and 20 minutes, with Shona Young winning the women’s race in four hours and 11 minutes.

Peter Miller led home the field in the half marathon in 1 hour 37 minutes while Rebecca Rennie was first lady in 1 hour 52 minutes.

There were 42 children taking part in the mile race, with the youngest taking part being just a year and a half old. Nine-year-old Joshua Todd came first and 11-year-old Felicity Boyle was the first girl and second overall.

The event raised money for Ford Park Community Group, which aims to secure the future of one of Ulverston’s most popular parks.
