TODAY is National Burger Day and a Grange-over-Sands butcher is celebrating with a stack of specialities.

To mark the occasion, Higginsons is launching its new 6oz burger grills - Stilton cheese and smoky bacon beef grills, or caramelised onion and creamy black pepper pork grills - for £2.20 each, or £8 for four today, Thursday, August 24.

These meat patties cook just like burgers and are great with or without a bun, says the butcher.

Higginsons will also be offering its ultimate burger stack, £3.75 each, which features a giant field mushroom lid and base, rather than being sandwiched in a bread bun. The classic steak burger is layered with streaky bacon, cheese and tomato sauce.

The stack was the idea of general manager Mark Porter and was first launched in May.

Mark said: "They need about 45 minutes in a medium oven to cook right through as the mushrooms create a bit of moisture, but the flavour is amazing."

Higginsons' speciality burgers will be available at its Main Street Shop from today until Saturday (August 26). These Burger grills cook just like burgers and are great with or without a bun!
