The McAMS Yamaha team are gearing up for the next round of the MCE Insurance British Superbike Championship at Cadwell Park at the weekend (August 18/19/20) as Kendal-born James Ellison and Michael Laverty bid to bounce back from a disappointing weekend at Thruxton.

The team faced a challenge with the high-speed Hampshire circuit throughout the weekend it ended with Ellison breaking into the top ten in the second race, finishing in ninth place after finishing in a disappointing 19th position in race one. Laverty had an equally tough time as he had his best result of a 13th in race two, missing out on points in race one.

The team now head to Cadwell Park next weekend, ready to make amends following a positive test at the Lincolnshire circuit recently.

Ellison said: “I’m very disappointed with Thruxton as both myself and Michael struggled with bike set up from the first free practice session and never found a comfortable setting all weekend that we could push at the front on.

“I was surprised as I love Thruxton and it is a strong track for the Yamaha for sure, but we just couldn't get our McAMS Yamaha to drive through the fast section from Village, Church and the back straight drag to the final chicane.

“By warm up after we had changed many components on the bike including the softer Suter swingarm back to the standard swingarm and we actually did make some progress but I just felt like I was losing everything through this fast section. The Yamaha has a very strong engine and is faster than most on the grid but for whatever reason we just got left behind in this section of the circuit.

“It was without doubt my worst weekend of the year in terms of performance so we need to study the data and make sure we come back much stronger for Cadwell. I am sorry to my team and all the sponsors for this disappointing result but I believe it was just a glitch on the radar and something we can fix and move on from. We have been at the sharp end of the field all year so I'm confident going into Cadwell that we can fight back and push for our spot in the Showdown.”
