A TEENAGER who left a fellow Kendal pub customer permanently scarred following a glass attack has been spared custody.

CCTV footage from inside the town's White Hart on April 2 captured 18-year-old Lewis Casey lunging at Luke Robinson, who had aimed a headbutt at his friend moments earlier.

Casey struck Mr Robinson with a glass in his hand, leaving the victim with deep cuts to his face and needing hospital treatment. Carlisle Crown Court heard Mr Robinson underwent counselling and was now a "different person" following an attack which caused "permanent scarring" to his face.

Casey, a man of previous good character, was sentenced today after admitting a wounding charge. He was said to have acted in "excessive self-defence", and was "deeply ashamed" of what happened.

After hearing Casey, of Silver Howe Close, Kendal, would lose his job if locked up, Judge Barbara Forrester suspended a two-year young offender institution term for two years.

Casey must complete 200 hours' unpaid work, a rehabilitation requirement and a four-month night-time curfew. He must also pay his victim £1,000 compensation.
