ANOTHER successful flower and vegetable show was hosted by the Kirkby Lonsdale Gardening Association.

Once again the town's passion, skills and knowledge in horticulture and home industries shone through.

More than 360 exhibits filled the Lunesdale Hall with what was described by show secretary Rosalind Buckland as a "superb standard" of flowers, vegetables, home-baking, handicrafts, painting and photography.

The show also included a higher than usual number of children’s exhibits which Ms Buckland said were of an "exceptional standard."

The prize for the best horticultural exhibit in the show was awarded to Margaret Haygarth and for which she was presented the Miss Sheila Dawson Cup plus the Blue Ribbon given by the Westmorland & North Lancashire Federation of Show Secretaries.

Margaret also won another two cups - the Silver Rose Bowl for the best specimen rose and also the Kirkby Lonsdale Gardening Association Challenge Trophy for the best single specimen or spike.

Association president Elizabeth Muirhead, who was presented with a bouquet, said she was delighted the event generates so much interest from the local and wider community.
