A SOUTH Lakeland father-of-two is to take on three half marathons in three days in an attempt to raise £500 for charity.

Stephen Wilson, 48, of Cark in Cartmel, is raising money for St Mary’s Hospice, Ulverston, which provides support and care for people with life-shortening conditions throughout Cumbria.

Stephen explained that he has a personal connection to the charity: “My dad died 11 years ago, through cancer, and the hospice helped massively.”

He will start off by running the Langdale Half Marathon course on Friday September 8, followed by a scenic South Lakes route on the Saturday before finishing with the Great North Run on Sunday September 10.

Stephen started running shortly before his 40th birthday when he weighed nearly 17 stone. He has been a member of Allithwaite Running Club since 2014 and now weighs 14 stone.

He plans to complete the three runs in under six-and-a-half hours.

“I don’t plan on walking at any point either, I’ll be running the whole time," he said. "I’m sure my legs are going to be very sore the following Monday!”
