ENTRY numbers were up almost across the board at a gloriously sunny Crosby Ravensworth Show and Vintage Rally.

The turnout was particularly bulky in the vintage, poultry and coloured horse and pony classes, as well as a healthy selection of high-quality livestock, including beef and dairy cattle, at the annual show.

There was something for everyone in the vintage section from 1950s tractors to an Austin Maestro Van and a Ferrari. The judge noted that the quality of vehicle at the show was very high, making it a tricky section to assess.

In the industrial tent, the Newby family won the Mcdonald Memorial trophy for the most points, with Malcolm Newby individually winning the Graham Holmes Environmental Award for local project that enhances the countryside, and the Rigg Rose Bowl for the most Points in the Horticulture.

In the children's section, the Helsington Cup for the Best exhibit was won by Katy Dear for the second year with a vegetable animal.

In the Cattle, the Miss Hilda Dent cup for the best beef animal went to Neil Slack, the Society cup for best Diary Animal went to Thomas Harrison with a homebred black and white Holstein calf.

In the Sheep, the U.A.M. Ltd YFC trophy for best young sheep handler went to Poppy Armstrong leading a beltex cross called Rapunzel, while Kieran Jackson from Littlebeck won the Bowness Perpetual Cup for local exhibitor with the most points in the sheep section, as well as the PF&K cup for best local sheep with his Tup. Mark Bousfield of Rosgill topped all the Bluefaced Leicester classes on the day with some fine examples of the breed.

There was a fine selection in the equestrian classes with exhibitors from Shetlands to Dales ponies and Handy Hunter to In hand Veteran horse. The Leith Trophy for best horse or pony in the Parish was won by Ayla Raeburn on Bengad Rock Fringe.

Two new cups for this year, the Jungle Stud Trophy for the Champion Miniature Shetland went to IM Walker with Bleach Green Tarquen, and the Pikestone Cup for Best Traditional Fell Pony went to AW Morland with Lunesdale Black Dahlia.

There was also a fun dog show and children's sports, both of which where both well entered and supported.
