WORK to replace gas mains located next to Windermere will begin on Monday (September 11).

Balfour Beatty, on behalf of Cadent is carrying out gas pipe work to enable United Utilities to continue its project to lay a new 6.5km sewer to improve water quality in Windermere.

Cadent was given the window between May 8 and October 31 to complete the work, which it has been doing in four phases.

The final two sections are both due to start on Monday.

Phase three is Beech Cottage, a stretch of the A592 just south of Storrs Hotel and phase four is Ferry Nab.

There will be temporary traffic light controls in place during the course of the work. Beech Cottage will have lights at either end of the work and it should be completed in six weeks.

Ferry Nab will have three sets of lights, two on the A592 and a third set at the junction with B5285. This work should take 7.5 weeks.

A spokesperson for Cadent has said that it will keep monitoring these lights, to 'keep traffic flowing and minimise inconvenience'.
