A MAN who denies being responsible for multiple alleged indecent assaults has gone on trial.
Roger Cook, 50, faces a total of 12 charges, all of which allege that he indecently assaulted a child aged under 16.
This alleged criminal conduct is said to have occurred during a period spanning five years in the Appleby area.
Cook has pleaded not guilty to all of the allegations.
His trial at Carlisle Crown Court began today (Monday). Prosecuting barrister Mark Ainsworth, opening the case, alleged that Cook had indecently assaulted the youngster and then "bought" secrecy and silence with "threats of violence".
Cook, of Trotternish Avenue, Staffin, Isle of Skye, was arrested and interviewed by police after allegations were made.
But he, said Mr Ainsworth, "denied any inappropriate behaviour" towards the child.
The trial continues.
