CUMBRIAN residents are now able to find out more about 80 of the county’s most beautiful churches on a new website.

Run by the National Churches Trust, ExploreChurches allows users to learn about the history, architecture, opening times and directions for each of the churches featured.

The top churches to visit in Cumbria include Cartmel Priory, St Oswald’s Church in Grasmere, St Mary’s Church in Ambleside, Brigflatts Quaker Meeting House in Sedbergh and Hawkshead Methodist Chapel.

Claire Walker, chief executive of the National Churches Trust, said: “Cumbria’s dramatic landscape is made even more beautiful by its many churches, chapels, and meeting houses.

“I am delighted that ExploreChurches is making it easy for people to discover Cumbria’s places of worship which are showcases of history, architecture and local life.”

The website, which can be accessed on desktops, tablets, and mobile phones, aims to make it easier for residents to discover churches developed by the UK’s church buildings support charity.

Users can share their favourite churches via social media, and comment on each church listed on the site, to provide reviews.
