KIRKBY Lonsdale has been used as the filming location for a new film about bare knuckle fighting.

Written and directed by Christopher Torretto of Maya Productions, 'Dorn Nochta' tells the story of a cage fighter whose career is ended due to a head injury.

However the cage fighter - played by Torretto - has a daughter who falls ill and needs expensive medical help. The protagonist becomes an illegal bare knuckle fighter in order to raise the money for his daughter's treatment.

Speaking about the plot, Torretto - who has been a cage fighter himself - said: "I want to show that there is still a major problem with illegal street fighting and that people do it for all sorts of different reasons.

"I am trying to show the audience that even if somebody goes into bare knuckle fighting for what they think are the right reasons, it is not safe."

Actors made their way up from Derby university to take part in the project, which was done in association with another Cumbrian film company: Celtic Storm Productions.

The fight scenes for the film were shot in a car park, where cars were positioned in a circle to create an arena.

Torretto explained that he often liked to film in the area, and had done so for his previous film 'Gemini', which was set in an abandoned farm house near Kendal.

"I love filming in Cumbria. It is the nicest place with the best locations I have been able to find."

The cast and crew are hoping to find a cinema in the area which will let them screen the film for its launch night. The planned release date is October 13.

There is one scene left to film, which is the main fight scene. Anybody who is interested in getting involved can contact Christopher Torrentto on Facebook.
