BBC Radio 1 DJ Scott Mills made a special guest appearance at the Cumbrian Young Farmers dance on Saturday.

The dance at Crooklands was part of the Westmorland County and Agricultural Show, usually held on the Thursday after the big farming event. But it was moved forward to the weekend due to such a big name appearance.

Social Secretary Daniel Aspin contacted Scott via his twitter page, and within a day had received a response agreeing to come and perform a set in front of a crowd of 2,000 young farmers from all over the county and their guests.

“It was surprisingly easy to get in touch with him and book him for the event,” said Daniel. “It cost six grand to book him, but it was worth it because we turned around a good profit. At first when he pulled up in his car I wasn’t sure what he’d be like, but he was a top fella.

“He met everyone and had pictures with everyone, and he spoke to us all for ages. He played a full set and then did a meet and greet.”

DJs Liam Robinson and Joe Cowps started of the night at 7.30pm before Scott took the stage at 10.30pm, playing for around an hour and a half. He started off his set by playing 'Don't You Worry Child' by Swedish House Mafia.

This year was Liam’s last year with the young farmers, and he enjoyed getting to introduce the famous DJ: “It was really, really good and a great atmosphere.

"I’ve never seen a crowd as wild, it was pretty mental being at the front.”

Daniel said: “His stuff was received really well and the night went down well. I’d like to thank everyone who helped me set up and especially our treasurer Steven Rowlinson and Christine Knipe (Chief Executive of the Westmorland County Show) for allowing me to hold such a big event.”

Daniel also thanked David Knipe, and all the bar staff who allowed him to hold the event and made the whole night run smoothly.

Money raised from the dance will go to the Cumbria Young Farmers with a final total to be announced.
