A DAZED swan found wandering on a dual carriageway after apparently being struck by a passing car was rescued by a helpful policeman.

The police were called by a driver travelling on the A6 near to the Lakeland Leisure Village at Warton, Carnforth, last Thursday who kept hold of the bird until officers arrived.

PC Rob Barnsley, of Morecambe Police, wrapped the swan in a blanket given to him by a first responder who had also stopped to help.

The swan was put in the back seat of the police car and PC Barnsley sat with the bird to keep it calm.

PC Barnsley, who contacted the RSPCA, said: "It caused a stir with people walking by, who stopped to take photos."
