MORNINGS are getting off to an even better start at Macdonald Hotels & Resorts following the introduction of a new breakfast menu featuring the best of British produce at all UK hotels.

Guests can start the day with a cooked breakfast that includes dry cured British bacon, Red Tractor-certified sausage, MacLeod and MacLeod 'Original' Stornoway Black Pudding and haddock, salmon and kippers, all smoked the natural way in 160-year-old kilns on the east coast of Scotland. New additions to the menu include haggis and fried eggs as well as classics like scrambled eggs and smoked salmon and a three-egg omelette with choice of fillings.

One of the places where guests can sample the new breakfast menu is at the four-star Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa at Bowness, one of three Macdonald Hotels in the Lake District.

Simon Bolsover, newly-appointed executive chef at Macdonald Old England Hotel & Spa, said: “Most of our guests come to experience at first hand the magnificent landscape of the Lake District and a good breakfast is an essential part of their preparations for the day ahead.

“With our new offering, we can give all our guests the best possible start to the day before they head out to explore the surrounding areas. At Macdonald Hotels & Resorts we are committed to using the finest British ingredients and our new breakfast menu has been crafted with the very best local produce.”

The unlimited continental buffet, which features 58 products, includes orange juice is freshly squeezed, the eggs are free range and the preserves are made by Galloway Lodge, a small family run artisan producer from Dumfries and Galloway who make their jams with a high fruit content and no chemicals or preservatives.

There will be a new extended home bakery section which alongside croissants and pain a la crème will be freshly-baked muesli muffins, banana bread and high energy granola bars.

With the increasing trend for healthier and ‘free-from’ breakfast options, the UK’s largest privately owned hotel group has added gluten-free zones at each of its 48 hotels, expanding the current range of gluten-free products to include cornflakes, muesli, white and brown bread, natural yoghurt and mixed berry compote. The fresh fruit includes watermelon, galia melon, pink grapefruit, oranges, and prunes.
