LAKE District brand, Herdy, is set to come to Kendal next month.

There are now four Herdy shops across Cumbria and Yorkshire with a fifth shop opening in Kendal in October.

Diane and Spencer Hannah, founders in 2007, are originally from Bolton and were inspired to create Herdy after a friendly encounter with a traditional Herdwick after moving their design business to the area in 2003.

The business began life at the Westmorland County Show with mugs, pin badges and keyrings.

Today Herdy has a collection of more than 400 products ranging from tableware, soft toys, babywear, gifts and mattresses.

Mrs Hannah said: “We chose Kendal because of its train links and proximity to the motorway network. There’s no doubt, if we hadn’t moved to the Lakes we wouldn’t have come up with the idea for Herdy.”

The brand has also just celebrated its 10-year anniversary.

To celebrate, a giant Union Jack Herdy has been enjoying the Lake District. The model sheep has been scaling the region’s tallest fells on Coniston Old Man with the Coniston Mountain Rescue team.

Herdy also created smaller limited edition hand-painted versions of the iconic sheep to mark the occasion.
