A KENDAL girls football team is appealing for more players to join up after getting a new kit.

Kendal United Girls Under 11s have been kindly sponsored by Ginger Bakers, based at Plumgarths, and the new kit worked wonders when it was worn for the first time on Sunday, 1st October.

In two away cup matches at Lancaster, the team won 4-0 and 6-1 to progress to the next round.

They celebrated with cakes, kindly provided by Ginger Bakers, run by Lisa Smith, whose daughter Nancy plays in midfield for the team.

Kendal United U11s compete in the South Lakes Girls League against opposition from Wattsfield, Milnthorpe, Lancaster, Ulverston, Dalton and Barrow.

The U11s are managed by coaches, Jayne Siddell, who plays for Kendal Town FC Ladies, and Geoff Rowlinson, who last year won Volunteer of the Year in the local FA awards.

Many of Kendal United U11s also play for their county team under the tuition of the Westmorland FA.

Weather permitting, the Kendal United U10s and U11s train on Saturday mornings from 10.30am at Castle Park School, Sedbergh Drive, Kendal, LA9 6BE.

Around 20 youngsters turn out but the club is keen to welcome as many new faces as possible to a friendly girls only team.

To give it a try, telephone Geoff on 0774 772 5443. The club also has teams for girls in older age groups.
