A BARROW man has been sentenced to more than two years in prison for committing burglaries in South Cumbria.

Ryan Goulding, 30, of Hood Street, was handed 904 days behind bars after pleading guilty to two dwelling burglaries and driving offences which he carried out during the night of March 29 -30.

He was sentenced at Preston Crown Court last Thursday, September 28.

Goulding entered two addresses, one in Barrow and one in Ulverston, while the occupants were asleep. He stole their car keys and took their cars which were parked outside the addresses.

The car stolen in Barrow was left abandoned outside an address in Ulverston while the other car was kept by Goulding.

Police officers spotted the car being driven along the Coastal Road and quickly deployed a stinger to bring the car to the stop.

Despite running from the car, Goulding was found by officers close by, and arrested.

Detective Constable Thomas Breakell, of South Cumbria CID, said: “I am glad that justice has been served and Goulding has been jailed for his crimes. There has been a lot of great team work involved in this case, from patrol officers who found one of the stolen vehicles, to members of the public who reported sightings of the stolen cars.

"The actions of Goulding when committing these two crimes have been with little consideration of the impact it would have on the victims and I hope that this sentence brings some form of closure to them.

“I would like to take this opportunity to thank the members of the public who informed police of the sightings of the stolen vehicles. ”
