A WINDERMERE businesswoman and pole dancing advocate is hoping to raise more than just eyebrows with her unusual take on charity fundraising.

Janett Walker, who co-runs PR and events company Flock, is aiming to raise £1,000 for Cumbria Community Foundation and has promised to release a full length music video of her completing a pole dancing routine if she does so.

As well as wanting to help the charity, Janett wants to 'get the conversation going' about pole dancing and help overcome some of the misconceptions that surround it.

“I have been doing pole dancing for exercise for nearly five years, it’s fantastic fun, keeps me fit and I enjoy it," she said. "I am aware however that I have the privilege to pole dance out of choice, but there are some women out there who do so not because they want to but because they have to.

"As a successful entrepreneur and lawyer I have a voice and I feel a responsibility to help raise awareness of both sides of pole dancing, which is why I chose the particular piece of music I dance to."

Small teaser videos and photographs have been leaked across social media and donations are already starting to come in.

Video director Paul Johnson of Explainer HQ said that he was 'intrigued by the whole idea'.

"While I have lots of experience of shooting video to music, I’d not done anything quite like this before," he said. "Though when I learned what she was aiming to achieve, I knew I could do Janett and the #PledgeToPole campaign justice Janett is a great dancer but I know this has been a brave step for her to dance in a public arena. As projects go it has been an unusual one but one I’m proud to have my name associated with."

Janett decided to start the campaign last year when she attended the Cumbria Community Foundation Annual Dinner and picked out a pledge from a hat that read 'I promise to do something for Cumbria Community Foundation next year'.

Janett is also a qualified lawyer and works as the legal advisor on the board of trustees for NUM (National Ugly Mugs).

NUM is a charity founded to help sex workers easily share and identify potentially dangerous or violent individuals.

The #PledgeToPole campaign runs until November 5 and donations can be made at https://www.justgiving.com/fundraising/janett-walker1

If the £1000 target is reached the video will be released on YouTube on Bonfire Night.
