THE Dukes Theatre, at Lancaster, premieres Storm Desmond play Blackout, playing nightly until November 3. On December 5, 2015, Storm Desmond plunged 100,000 people in North Lancashire into darkness. This original play is inspired by testimony from residents, emergency responders, journalists and more. Locally based professional actors, Christine Mackie and Peter Rylands, will be supported by 40 community performers in keeping with the ethos of Blackout being created with, and performed by, local people. This thrilling account of chaos, bewilderment and camaraderie during the power cut will be performed in The Round.

AN EVENT shaping up to be absolutely 'wunderbar' is taking over the Ravenglass & Eskdale Railway from Saturday (October 21) to October 29, as the 15-inch gauge railway lays on a glorious Oktoberfest Rail Extravaganza featuring German locos, food and even musical entertainment. The railway is billing its German-themed event as the 'narrow gauge event of the year', having secured the visit of two German Krauss-built steam engines, Tazzelwurm and Steam Engine No.1. Another loco of Germanic origin heading to the railway is The Bug, a Romney, Hythe and Dymchurch engine. The R&ER will also be displaying some of its own engines - Synolda, Count Louis and Katie - in the new Railway Museum.
