Open for breakfast, lunch and coffee, it was borne out of a meeting of like minded parents with children at St Thomas' primary school in Kendal, and a desire to do something 'hands on'.

Co-founder Anne Hoe is a former London solicitor who runs the cafe with ex-GP husband Kevin and chef Phil Lewis.

Anne said: "What we cook is reflective of the food that interests the three of us. I am originally from Singapore, for we do some south east Asian cuisine like curries, Kevin is very interested in food from Spain and South America, and Phil has been a head chef at lots of restaurants, so is experience in everything really.

"It is very eclectic. We like to change things.

"We decided that we wanted to do something that was more hands on that being a lawyer and a doctor in offices!

"We moved up from London as Kevin is from here and we wanted to be close rot family and give our daughter a more outdoorsy upbringing.

"Our daughter is good friends with Phil's daughter, and that's how we met.

We have had some great feedback so far. We care just getting stated, with our new signage just going up. People have been saying they love the food.

"It is really nice being here as well. The people are all very friendly, so we love it here."

The Red Door Kitchen is open from 9am to 3pm Monday to Friday. There are four changing daily specials, as well as a breakfast and sandwich menu, coffee and homemade cakes.
