APPLEBY Grammar School students enjoyed the first half of their annual exchange with Willem Van Oranje School in Oud-Beijerland, Holland

Fifteen Dutch students visited Cumbria, each of which was paired with a Year 11 volunteers, who undertook the role of hosting them.

In the build-up to their visit students were able to communicate with their respective partners via social media.

After their arrival and a meet-and-greet, complete with a tour of the school, students went home to meet their host families.

Some students went for walks around the Lakes, while some stayed at home and sampled British cuisine.

During their visit, students took a trip to Leeds on the train and visited the famous armouries. The day included a guided tour of the city and free time to peruse the shops.

Dutch students also enjoyed a trip to Carlisle and there were tearful goodbyes as the Dutch students made their departure for the ferry.

Students from Appleby will be heading to Holland next July.
