A YOUNG woman from Kendal who now lives in Australia is set to tackle a gruelling triathlon in aid of CancerCare this weekend.

Lucy Maine, 26, a former Queen Katherine School pupil, will undertake the country's oldest triathlon – the Nepean Triathlon - on Sunday (October 29).

Lucy’s mum Mary Holland, a specialist palliative care nurse in the community, is a trustee of CancerCare so the athlete is well aware of the charity’s work with families affected by cancer and other potentially life-limiting conditions.

The Nepean Triathlon is held at the International Regatta Centre in Penrith in the Sydney Basin and includes a tough 1k swim, a 30k bike ride and a 10k run.

Lucy, who now works in marketing in Sydney, said: “I'd love to raise some cash for CancerCare which is a lovely local charity. CancerCare’s mission is to help people of all ages affected by the impact of cancer and other conditions.

“They provide access to free professional help and support whenever people need it.

"My mum sees first-hand the fantastic help and support that CancerCare provides to people and their families during difficult times. Whatever you can donate will make a big difference.”

Lucy decided to make Sydney her home after studying Marketing and Management at Newcastle University and then travelling in South East Asia.

The money she raises will be used to provide support services to people affected by cancer and their families at the Lakes Centre on Blackhall Road in Kendal.

Therapies are offered to help people cope with the physical, mental and emotional effects of cancer.
